The new CLP

Labeling regulation

This will change with the new CLP Regulation (from 2026)

The revised CLP Regulation (Classification, Labelling and Packaging) will bring far-reaching changes to the labeling of chemical products from 2026. The aim is to communicate hazards even more clearly and safely - for consumers, industry and the environment.

The most important new features at a glance:

  • Stricter legibility requirements:
Minimum font sizes are specified depending on the packaging size - between 1.2 mm and 2 mm.
  • Larger pictograms:
Hazard symbols must appear in a fixed minimum size in future - regardless of the space on the packaging.
  • Extended labeling requirements:
Safety instructions, processing instructions and hazard information must be complete and clearly legible.
  • Multilingual requirements:
Multilingual labels are mandatory for distribution in several countries - relabeling is no longer permitted.

These changes significantly increase the requirements for label design - especially for small packaging and products with a lot of mandatory information.
